Chrysalis Glass are Alison and Chris, working together in our home studio we create contemporary fused glass art, gifts and jewellery. Our style is fresh and dynamic and is inspired by the endless possibilities of light, reflection, colour and form. We aim to create individual and affordable pieces that are equally at home in contemporary or traditional interiors.

The Process

Each piece is individually designed and handmade using specialist fusing glass. The glass is hand cut and shaped before being layered to create unique pieces, which are then assembled in the kiln for fusing.

In some pieces inclusions of a variety of metals and paper are placed between the layers of glass.

The glass is then kiln fired at temperatures in excess of 800°C and allowed to cool slowly to prevent thermal shock from breaking the glass. Some pieces are then refired using moulds to form bowls and plates, with each firing taking at least 12 hours.

Once fused pieces may then be hand polished or ground and jewellery is finished using sterling silver chains or various styles and colours of cord.
